Next
to Calle Francisco Gourié we find the Municipal Garden, with
several paved and tree-lines areas. It contains an enormous variety
of trees and plants of great ornamental interest. Not in vain is Arucas
also known as the “Town of the flowers”.
This garden contains plants from the world over, in a setting in which
the presence of water, flowing through a series of irrigation channels,
and birds, plays a very important role.
In general lines, the design of the Municipal Garden consists of a
combination of the two most popular models in the world: the English
model, with its characteristic coppices, and the Versailles model,
with its geometrically shaped ponds and flower beds. In turn, the
pa

stone design, based on a material called “terrazo” stone,
is reminiscent, according to chronicler Juan Zamora, of the gardens
in Alicante and the Copacabana beaches, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Park Goblin
The Park Goblin is hidden in one of
the many trees in the Municipal Garden. This tiny character is part
of the Municipal Garden’s history, and visitors to Arucas who
take a stroll in this splendid garden look for the Goblin, which is
said to bring good luck to all who scratch its nose.
