MAPFRE
GUANARTEME CANARY ISLAND FOUNDATION IN ARUCAS A group of farmers created
the Agricultural Mutual Society for the North of Gran Canaria, in 1933
in Arucas. In 1942 it changed its name to Guanarteme Mutual Society, and
was the origin of the Mapfre Guanarteme Canary Island Foundation.
In 1947, the Guanarteme Mutual Society acquired the building which now
houses the headquarters of the Mapfre Guanarteme Canary Island Foundation
of Arucas. Located in Calle León y Castillo, the building is part
of the Arucas Old Town Centre and most of its original structure remains
unaltered.
The building has the characteristic beauty of the lordly homes of Arucas,
combining the elegance of stone with wooden floors and splendid central
patios. Outside we can observe the elegance with which its principal two-storey
facade is connected by a door on one side to a square inner patio. The
building is largely made out of stone, like nearly all the houses in the
Arucas Old Town Centre.
