La Hondura is on the Arucas coastline, and is associated to a small settlement, of agricultural origin, next to the general north road, close to the by-roads leading to El Cardonal, Las Hoyas and Cruz de Pineda. But La Hondura is also known for the impressive geological accident near to the Club Cívico-Militar consisting of a high cliff forming a semi-circle and protecting a small bay. From the 17th to the 19th century it was considered as a possible anchoring ground, but the project was abandoned because of its difficult access and the steepness of the cliffs. The Arucas Council’s Town Planning Regulations have the place classified as worthy of special protection due to its interesting landscape and environmental and geological values.
