Hoya de San JuanThis district is at an altitude of 720 feet in the easternmost part of the town of Arucas. It was apparently part of the important original core of native Arehucas, to judge by the pre-Hispanic remains found in the vicinity: an idol in the shape of the head of a dog or pig (tibicena, or evil spirit) and different material, mortars and recipients, miscellaneous ceramics and different shapes of painting instruments and seals.

This settlement, of rooted Canary Island tradition, has long housed what is called the Casa de Gallos, where cock fighting and betting continues today. From being a scarcely population banana emporium, it has become an important part of the town, the value of which increased when the “motorway” was opened, leaving Hoya de San Juan in a privileged position, from a communications perspective.
