Ermita de Nuestra Sra. del RosarioCruz de Pineda started to be a district after the Conquest. in the vicinity of what was probably a small pre-Hispanic settlement close to Llano Blanco and El Cardonal. These three settlements now form what is called Tres Barrios (Three Districts).

The name of Cruz de Pineda comes from the historic events that occurred in March, 1556, when Hernando de Pineda, Mayor and Colonel of Gáldar and Guía, was murdered. A cross and a marble plaque were installed on a wall in Calle Manuel Hernández Pérez in memory of the event.

The district contains some examples of traditional Canary Island architecture which are widely spread out, often in the middle of agricultural land, such as the “Residencia Cruz de Pineda”; it also has some 19th and 20th century buildings such as “Casa Suárez” in El Hinojal and “Casa del Inglés” in Cruz de Pineda. Finally, the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary, built in the 1930’s under the auspices of the Montaña de Cardones parish priest, José Déniz Rodríguez, is outstanding because of its simplicity and elegance.
